Antonio and I (Byron Holcomb) are gearing up for our second coffee harvest. Our goal is to process a 15 bag micro-lot for export. We plan to build a small drying tunnel and raised drying beds.
Now when you walk the farm it has a different feel. It is almost like an old house recently rehabbed – it feels alive with hope. Antonio is on the farm everyday, and it shows. The deep rich soil is pushing up new coffee buds ands shoots.
The neighboring coffee farms are excited to know a better price is in their future. They have offered to sell me not only their crop, but their whole farm. My goal is to produce the highest quality micro-lots of coffee leaving the Dominican Republic, not to own all the coffee farms. The biggest challenge we face is introducing quality coffee culture to a region that has never seen better prices for better coffee.
